Johnson’s uncle was David W. Duclon who was a successful screenwriter. He would help her secure an audition to start her acting career. In 1984, the pitch for “Punky Brewster” was given after the success of the series “Silver Spoons”. Soleil Moon Frye was cast as Punky and Cherie was cast as the best friend whose character was modeled after her. “Punky Brewster” would prove successful, and she continued to be part of the show in the next few years. She also made guest appearances in “The Parkers”, and had a vocal guest role on “The Proud Family”. In the early 2000s, she made an appearance in “Days of Our lives”, but then focused on film production, writing, producing, as well as starring in the indie film “I Do… I Did!” In 2010, she starred in “Lights Out”, “Guardian of Eden” and “Nobody Smiling”, and then appeared in the romantic film “Fanaddict”, which was shot in 2011.

In 2014, she released her sophomore album entitled “Peaches & Cream”, and the diary entry book “Stupid Guys Diary”. Her writing work has increased her net worth, and she would become the Executive Director for Dimez magazine, and a contributing writer for Glam Couture magazine, and Temptation magazine, before in 2016 starting work at Fever magazine. Johnson was also given an Editor position at “Success News”, and is the co-host of a sports radio show alongside Charles Oakley and Penny Hardaway.
